On the first day of our trip, we will travel from Bishkek to Karakol and visit Burana, a yurt camp on the south shore of Issyk Kul, Fairy Tale canyon and Barskaun gorge on our way.
Just about an hour away from the capital and 15 min from Tokmok town, we will visit the Burana complex - we will rise up to the tower, which dates back to the X-XI centuries. The territory of the Burana complex was Balasaghun city before - the capital of the great Karakhanid Empire. Burana is one of the oldest structures on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The height of the tower is more than 20 meters, and it has a beautiful view from the top! We will explore all the most interesting objects on the territory of the historical complex and then continue our journey to Issyk Kul.
Closer to noon, we will arrive at the yurt camp, located very near to the lake, where we will have lunch. After the meal, we will go to the Fairy Tale canyon. This beautiful place is half an hour’s drive from the camp and differs a lot from all other landscapes of Issyk Kul.
After walking on the Fairy Tale and enjoying walking, we will go to the Barskaun gorge, famous for its waterfalls. This is an amazing place!
We will back to the yurt camp for dinner in a cozy yurt, we will have traditional dishes in a traditional atmosphere. We will also spend the night in the yurt.
We will have breakfast in a yurt camp and head to Karakol. On the way, we will visit Djety Oguz gorge, famous for its red rocks. This is an amazing place! The slopes of the mountains are covered with coniferous forest, the dirty road leaves to the high-mountain meadows, and small but beautiful waterfall is hidden somewhere in the depths of the gorge. Djety Oguz can be explored on foot, by car or by riding horses in a small village very close to (horses are given for an extra fee).
Mid-afternoon finally we will come to Karakol, we will have a small city tour around the city, which is very interesting with his main attractions like the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Dungan Mosque. Later this evening we will stay in a guest house created by a Kyrgyz-Dutch family and go for dinner.
After breakfast, we say leave our friendly hosts of the guest house and return to Bishkek. Visiting the main attractions of Karakol, we will leave the city by north shore of Issyk Kul lake. In Cholpon Ata, we will visit the interesting cultural complex Rukh Ordo, known with the Museum of Five Religions. After exploring the museum, we will go for lunch and then continue our trip.
We will arrive in Bishkek in the evening. After the tour, we can drop you to the hotel or directly to Manas airport (no extra charge).
In the yurt camp on the shore of Issyk Kul you can see a demonstration of hunting with eagles (surcharge – 5000 soms from the group).
In the gorge Djety Oguz you can also rent horses for horseback riding, surcharge 500 soms per hour for one horse.
You can take all necessary things. Please take into consideration that in summer time the temperature in Bishkek city reaches up to 40 oC and in the mountains the temperature decreases to 10 oC. Be prepared for unexpected changes of the weather.
Recommended: rain-coat, sweater/fleece, wind-stopper, enough t-shirts and other underwear (think of taking smth with long sleeves to avoid sunburns), hat (remember – the sun can be violent), sun-screen cream (30 or higher), insect repellent (skin + clothes), good trekking boots for easy hikes in the mountains, walking shoes (don’t need heavy ones) for the city walks, flash light (torch).
Personal first aid kit (most likely problems: blisters, sunburns, allergy, diarrhoea, sore muscles after hikes. Take painkillers, anti-histaminic, antibiotics of general action, and anything you need for your usual medical conditions), personal hygiene kit (disinfection gel is highly recommended) + some toilet paper.
A small towel, swimming suit (for Issyk-Kul), sunglasses, photo camera, notepad and a pen to make notes as you travel, a smaller backpack, except for your normal suitcase.
